Jekaterina is RockBridge Legal Assistant, providing legal assistance to the firm’s attorneys in criminal cases, both in pre-trial criminal proceedings and in court (incl. proceedings concerning criminally acquired property).

Jekaterina provides daily support to the firm’s attorneys and Associates in preparing and translating various legal documents, conducting legal analysis of case circumstances, and researching various legal issues.

Before joining the RockBridge Legal team, Jekaterina gained her first legal experience by interning at a law firm. In parallel with her studies, Jekaterina participated in the 2023 Prof. P. Minc’s Criminal Law Moot Court competition and received an excellence award at the 2022 Prof. K. Dišlers Public Law Summer School in environmental law.

In recent years, the shadow economy index in Latvia has not decreased. In 2018, it accounted for 20.24% of GDP, and in 2021 – 20.22% of GDP. “Envelope wages” or undeclared employment income (obtained by maintaining double accounting and avoiding tax payments) constitute a significant part of the shadow economy.

When I was asked to write an “introductory course” for new businesses about taxes, it seemed that the article would consist of only one sentence, because the most important thing entrepreneurs need to know about taxes is that “One way or another, taxes will have to be paid!”. This is a truth that new entrepreneurs do not think about, just as they do not think that any business activity is always associated with risk, including the risk of “getting into” tax debts.
